Welcome to Sweet Deseret Farm!

Important Milk Sales Update

We thank the Bowler family and Utah Natural Meat and Milk for allowing us to provide raw goat milk for its amazing customers during the last four months.

We are very sorry to announce that Saturday December 21st will be the last day that Sweet Deseret Dairy will be selling raw goat milk at Utah Natural Meat and Milk, however, milk sales will continue at our Willard Dairy.

This has been a difficult decision for us as we have weighed the long-term health of our dairy herd with the wonderful relationship we have with UNM and the Bowlers. This sudden change was necessitated as we watched some key health indicators slowly decline in our herd over the past few months, and we felt an urgent need to “right the ship” before the does completed their pregnancies and kids are born.  For our LaManchas, kidding season begins in January, in the cold of winter and it is imperative that the does (mother goats) and unborn kids are in their best health before kidding begins.  As a result, we introduced a small portion of grain back into the diet of our LaMancha dairy goats.  Some have asked why grain?  Because grain is the binder and carrier for the mineral and nutrient package needed to keep these wonderful animals healthy and happy.  We would happily discuss our management and feed practices with any who are interested.

We feel a great and at times urgent stewardship for these loving LaManchas that give their lives to produce such healthy and tasty milk for our family and customers.  The better we care for them, the healthier and happier they are and the better and more milk they will provide.  We have, and are continuing, to try to find another “non-grain” delivery method for this necessary mineral and nutrient package but have thus far been unsuccessful and so we will continue to supplement their sprout and alfalfa fed diet with grain.

We are sorry that this has caused some confusion and even frustration to the loyal “grain free” UNM and customers.  UNM has a grain free philosophy, and we did not consider well enough the repercussions of our change to grain. We are once again sorry for this conflict in philosophy and practice and have agreed to stop selling at UNM.

Moving forward, we are looking at the feasibility of identifying another location close to UNM so we might continue to provide for those customers who are still interested in purchasing Raw Milk from us.  There are however Municipal and State regulations that we need to work through before this can happen, we will spend the holidays trying to work through those details.

For four months Shane Argyle has manned the Sweet Deseret Store at UNM.  Shane and his family are long term friends of the Babcocks and the Bowlers.  We are so grateful for his time and help as a business mentor and the face of Sweet Deseret Dairy at UNM.  As we transition away from West Jordan, Shane will be less involved in milk sales and his ample skills will be used more effectively and more appropriately elsewhere.

We look forward to a closer and more personal interaction with those who would still like to purchase Raw Goat Milk and would love to help coordinate group pickups from the dairy in Willard if that is something that is of interest.  Our contact information remains the same.  However, the individuals connecting with customers will all be the owners/operators and milkers at Sweet Deseret Dairy.  We will continue to keep our customers updated through email and our website www.sweetdeseretdairy.com
